The grants will be rewarded through Dutchess County’s 2019 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program, which will address critical public service needs throughout the county.
The awards come as part of nearly $1.5 million in funding intended to improve accessibility, expand affordable housing options and address other urgent needs.
The $150,000 public service project funding will be distributed as follows:
Catholic Charities - Homeless Prevention Case Management Program: $25,000
- Emergency rent and utility assistance for 50 low-income Dutchess County residents
Friends of Seniors - Senior Transportation and Support Services: $25,000
- Basic support services for county residents ages 60 and up, including non-emergency medical transportation, grocery shopping, visiting services, respite to primary caregivers and telephone reassurance
Hudson River Housing – Housing First Support Services: $25,000
- Case management services under Housing First Program, intended to help high-risk homeless adults find and maintain stable housing
Hudson River Housing - River Haven Homeless Youth Program: $25,000
- Crisis services, emergency housing, counseling, youth development programs and case management for runaway, homeless and at-risk youth between the ages of 10 and 17; provides homeless youth ages 17 to 25 with safe housing as they work toward self-sufficiency
Mid-Hudson Addiction Recovery Center - Substance Abuse Residential Recovery Services: $25,000
- Comprehensive services assisting with addiction recovery (emergency housing, non-hospital-based detox and treatment referral, community residences, supportive housing, counseling, life skill training, vocational development, sober supported apartments, tenant counseling and rent subsidies)
Northeast Community Council - Youth Development: Teen Team and CPSB: $25,000
- Peer support and service learning group that provides educational, recreational and community service opportunity for at-risk and socioeconomically disadvantaged youth between the ages of 14 and 18; the Community Partnership with Schools and Businesses provides opportunities for youth ages 14 to 21
Additional awards will be announced within the following weeks.
“Whether helping prevent homelessness, enabling seniors to maintain their independence, or helping residents struggling with substance use along their road to recovery, we are committed to assisting Dutchess County’s most vulnerable residents – a key pillar of the Community Development Block Grant program,” said County Executive Molinaro. “We’re grateful to have so many community partners willing and able to assist our residents, as together we continue serving those residents in need of assistance.”
